What is electrolysis?

During traditional electrolysis, a small sterile probe is precisely inserted into each hair follicle. A microcurrent of electricity is then applied to the base of the follicle, and the resulting heat destroys the growth matrix of the hair so that it cannot regenerate. Blend electrolysis involves a combination of both heat and chemical destruction designed to eliminate more difficult hairs.

Is electrolysis permanent?

Developed by a doctor in 1875, electrolysis is both an art and an exact science. It is the only F.D.A. approved method of permanent hair removal shown to be equally effective on all skin and hair types. Once treatment is completed for all the actively growing hairs in a particular area, they are eliminated and the client can enjoy beautiful, hair-free skin that lasts a lifetime.

What areas can be treated?

Electrolysis has been proven to be equally effective on all areas of the body as well as all skin and hair types. It is considered the gold standard when compared to all other methods of hair removal. Commonly treated areas include, but are not limited to: chin, cheeks, neck, upper lip, eyebrows, underarms, legs, back, and bikini. At Phoenix Salon, we are experts in creating a treatment plan that will net you effective results. You will be amazed to watch skin previously prone to irritation, ingrown hairs, and breakouts consistently improve throughout your individual course of treatment.

What does it feel like?

The insertion into the follicle itself goes generally unnoticed, and the current used to perform electrolysis lasts only fractions of a second. Most clients describe feeling a sensation of heat beneath the skin. For most, this is irritating or uncomfortable but not unbearable. For more sensitive skin, we sell topical anesthetic that can be applied prior to treatments.

Are there any side effects?

An electrologist is a trained professional in the fields of skin health and hair growth. We strive to carefully balance an effective treatment with your skin’s individual reaction. Most clients experience slight redness, puffiness, and minor irritation within the treated area. This reaction subsides within one to two hours after treatment. When practiced in a sterile environment and with proper client aftercare, electrolysis poses no risk of infection or permanent side effects.

Is electrolysis cost effective?

An individual electrolysis treatment is comparable in price to many salon services. While electrolysis will incur an initial investment of your time and money, in the long run it can save you the repeated cost and aggravation of dealing with years of temporary hair removal.

What should I do for aftercare?

Client aftercare is an important part of successful electrolysis treatment. How you care for the treated area after a visit to our salon is a key factor in maintaining your skin between treatments. We recommend using ice or anti-inflammatories to reduce puffiness immediately following electrolysis. It is especially important in the 48 hours following treatment to keep the area clean and sanitary as individual follicles are healing closed. No makeup or products containing dyes or fragrances should be used during this time. We do recommend using Witch Hazel and Aloe to calm and soothe the treated area, and after the first 48 hours we recommend daily use of a non-comedogenic moisturizer.
